Perhaps I have offended a sacred cow, but our
older boys don't miss pinewood derby one bit,
and consider it along with the OP leadership-
a "little boys event".
I explained to Cdr.Jones that our OP has
chosen to work with the Youth Pastor and the
Childrens pastor, to build the greater ministry
of the church over a single program.
The compromise, we made was to separate
the older Ranger boy, who would desire to earn
the GMA from those who would be better off at a
youth meeting with others their age.
Identifying the interest in the pinewood derby
and limiting it to younger age groups allows
them to hold this as a major fundraiser for
their Op's and separateing the older boys let's
them feel they have come of age, promotes
advancement and high adventure based events.
The older boys meet bi-monthly for a "adventure"
or outdoor event, hike ect. They advance at
a self-pace and are central to our churches youth
outreach.
In Christ-
