*All of us have had the experience that no matter how hard we try..
some boys don't make the Ranger grade and advance... some drop out
and may not even say good by!

I caught up with a couple in the hall recently and asked them politely
why
it was they quit Royal Rangers.. what they told me seemed strange...

"We lost interest in Rangers..."

"It was boring.. nothing new"

"I didn't like... (fill in the blank)"

*Here's my heartfelt ->A No.1<- opinion....

-THEY HAD NEVER BEEN TO A RANGER MEETING!
...what they saw was bogus and fraud, a shame of what Cdr.Johnnie
"visioned"
and YES *I was in command!

The fact is they droped out because they lost interest in what was
served to them
and *called Royal Rangers!

The times that boys have droped out of a REAL Royal Ranger outpost are
few!

....and why you have trouble believing me is that FEW boys have been
part of a
GOOD patrol and a STRONG Outpost under ABLE leadership!

Test my word... find out for yourself * if ... under that RARE
individual who is ABLE TO LEAD
*boys fail to advance... *fail to become leaders themselves... and
*leave.. for even in cases where
families have moved, jobs changed or work or school considerations
changed to conflict...
Rangers have made time for a GOOD OUTPOST!

You see if you give the boys what they expect... they will stay on and
on and succeed, giving
you as Commander the time of your life to invest in them, the best you
have to give!

What do you think?

Subj: [RR] Training Junior Ranger Leaders...

The following is the job of Adults who desire effective Junior Leaders
in their Outpost.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------

1. Hold a monthy JLTC meeting and work on one or two subjects as well as
planning for future meetings and events..
(*You cannot do everything on wed's night.. and the planning must
precede the meeting!)

2. JLTC camp-out all weekend to build bridges of communication.

3. following "training" Commander gives training to replacement leaders
by personal coaching..with the exception of campcraft skills and hikeing
which are better handled in a group setting. Commander addresses the
Outpost and convinceingly promotes
Junior LeaDERS...

Never-ending story!
--------------------

TRAINING JUNIOR LEADERS IS NEVER ENDING... *BUT IT IS THE JOB WE
REQUESTED RIGHT?
*If you are going to spend time as an effective Ranger leader...put the
majority of your time here.. forget FCF,
forget section duties..district jobs.. Do this and only this ... *for
the boys!

*Some off-the trial signs..

1. a patrol sends no representitive to the jltc meeting.
2. Poor attendence.
3.Lack of dicipline in the meeting.
4.Poor spirit.. (or NO SPIRIT!)
5.No eveidence of planning meetings or activities.
6. patrol leader does all the talking for the patrol, every one else
"spaces out"
7. Lack of advancement
8.No patrol jobs
9. Only parts of uniforms worn.
10.Nothing goes on.. Brian dead meetings!

The Holidays bring us dig'n around in old boxes... and I got a call from
my
Dad to come over and get some stuff or he was throwing it out..<G>

Reluctantly I did... and I'm glad

The world has changed a great deal since I was 19 in 1971<G> and when
you meet yourself via cassette tape 30 years later... *Get ready for a
shock<G>

The man you were... may not be the man you remember<G> *But I'm pleased
to report
several things....

1.30 years ago Bible thumpers were just as annoying as they are today<G>
same message..

2, Jimmy Swaggart actually sounded pretty good<G>

3. "High tech" was called "electronics" and the future was 4 channel
STEREO

*Other things I noticed..

I heard a young man asking the right questions in the face of the
*un-known...
But not sure of the right course of action to take. I heard myself ask
for
counciling in choices, and I think what I'd do for the "kid" is give him
some
basic encouragement<G>

We can't go back! ...but we can learn from our past<G> and the skill we
should cherish is one that "for-shadows" the trail ahead for a Young man

through life.

Why "character counts" is that we will be presented challenges and
choices..

Success is tied to our "Dreams" and "Aspirations" for they motivate us
and sustain
our energy to build a life and family from the wilderness of childhood.
Some of that
has to do with making sense of situations that don't.. and applying
faith when we
don't always see the clear path ahead..

Some pride themselves with quick thinking and cognitive reasoning, and
seem always to
have an answer on the tip of their tong<G> *But just maybe... answers
also come to those
that reflect.. and wait.

I'd advise myself...and every young man of that... just wait.. think
right and a answer will
come<G> Choose wisely.. and don't invest in current fashions<G>

I've got more to say on this subject...
Good stuff I hope<G>
