*Yes it would be "neat" however let me try to share
something about this thought. I sure do hope people
can see the intention of my words is not to spoil
the fun, but to temper the the stewardship of
resources
back on track.
FCF can be a very exspensive club to join.
I can only speak for me of course..
*But after sponsering three youngbucks and
aquireing the rig to house, feed and *Wahoo..
in primitive style.. I found it was keeping
me from some of the "Home Improvement" duties
that are my primary job.
I count 5 Black Powder rifles, a $1,000 Tipi
and my Chevy truck-fuel to travel up to 500mi's
as part of the sport along with dues for two and
event fee's and "gifts"...
All along I knew that "Dressing the part" is
secondary to haveing something else happen.
I have championed turning old blankets into
Capotes and scrap wool into bags to sell to
feed the FCF pile of plunder.
*Don't get mad or upset, but when we started
going High Adventure with the Scouts, we were
not equiped with proper light weight gear, or
shelter for all weather 4 season camping. I
discovered that to outfit a Scout with proper
Pack,Boots, rain gear and layered clothes was
about the same as outfitting him with a total
FCF "package".
Where I'm leading, all readers is to a "reflection"
on where FCF as a "camping" booster might head. to
bless the Royal Ranger outdoor program. Open the
FCF handbook and gaze at the meaning assigned to
FCF to support the camping arm of Royal Rangers.
Boy's need activities that allow them to feel
challanged at their most heartfelt sence of
adventure. Backpacking trips have long been
a part of the life of Royal Rangers and builds
the team, through the *planning and use of the
patrol system. "Planning is low cost" and so
is "Challenge" but when you put the gaggle of
outfitted FCF members on the trail... the finest
beaded moc'erson pails to a K-mart boot.
Likewise arriveing at the end of a 10 mile treck
uphill.. A simple Target store tent or tarp beats
that 16' sunforger Tipi!
*It's wonderfull that many can do "both" and
perfect their FCF primitive rigs for pennies,
and not drag on quality camping with the Outpost..
Frankly, I wasn't able too myself. *And for a
Greenhorn youngbuck, I'd now recomend a quality
sleeping bag over buckskins anyday. That would
be of more "value"
