We had our District ROTY Evaluation this weekend. It was fun. It was
refreshing and it was tiring... I came home and took a 4 hour nap...only
a few hours of sleep (my fault).

Brian Hendrickson from National Office is fine tuning the ROTY program
and we get to be in on the test flights...GRIN! I want to express to you
guys the heart of this Commander who has it in his heart to challenge and
inspire and do the very best for boys and men. We have a great team at
the head or our Royal Rangers and it really does my heart good to see
them working on the front lines to take good ideas and make them work in
real life.

Some great news! I got to see the National Offices Royal Ranger Database
Program. Its in it's infancy but it will calculate advancements and help
you as a commander. It has a ways to go to relieve me of the burden for
Good Royal Ranger Software but it's heading in the right direction!!!!

ROTY computer program I am developing update. We still used the Excel
Spreadsheet layouts developed by National and it does a good job of
tallying the boys scores however once the "Excel Spreadsheet fans"
settle down and figure out that off of single data key entry a program
can print off all 57 custom testing station skills sheets with the right
boys on all sheets and the boys get a printed of sheet of where they are
supposed to go as well as the skill evaluators get a listing of what boys
they will have come to their events and its done by one button key press
where the computer does the sorting and sheet making they will realize
that why am I spending hours doing something a simple little free program
can do with the click of a button. I just grin and shake my head!

I did find out that my tallying section in my program had left out the
written tests for all of the skill stations and I didn't realize that RK,
DR, AR and Expedition Rangers had different combinations of skill -
written type testing and I thought I was so smart...opps! One
observation that couldn't be overlooked was the evaluation system need to
be scaled down. Instead of 6 choices out of 10 skill stations they are
going to lower that by about half and also the written
evaluations...details to be worked out of course. I am all for it. I
feel very strongly that the testing process needed to go on a diet..GRIN!
Good ideas sometimes just don't meet the reality of the situation.

Again it is really nice to know that our National Staff are here working
with us to make things better and evaluate and reevaluate until new ideas
and things work.

The bottom line. I saw a group of boys have fun take part in evaluations
and received awards and recognition for the hard work and accomplishments
they have done over the past year. It was good to see these boys have
fun and enjoy the process. We are heading in the right direction.

Great Job!
