Perhaps I should note that Microsoft’s simple Paint program that is included in Windows can change resolution and save as a different picture format. It is far from elegant but does work, I use it all the time to reduce picture sizes by percentage. It can also crop pictures.

Facebook makes the files small by reducing the resolution but I prefer to keep the high resolution. In any case using a picture variable in the background instead of wallpaper allowed me to use the JPG file and my for is now almost 10 times smaller.
