Try troubleshooting the local printer first. Open the printer dialog (start, settings, printer, properties).

If the printer has a diagnostis menu, this is the first thing I would look at. Very often printer diagnostics can point to the problem.

Print a test page and if it doesn't  print, check the cable connections and retry.

Make sure the printer properties don't show the printer taken off-line or paused.

I would then replace the parallel cable and see if it will print.

Usually when a local printer won't print the solution is usually pretty easy to find as it is most likely a hardware related issue.

Good luck,

Subject: [RBASE-L] - Printing a file locally

Here's a strange one I haven't seen yet.  Client is on a
W2000 network, printing from Win98 workstation, RBWin 6.5++.

A program prints hundreds of individual statements -- this is
the problem I posted I think last year where it never made
it thru the entire job, found that Okidata lasers have a
problem running on HP Jet Direct network cards.  They moved
the running of this program to a workstation that has a
laserjet locally attached.  It is a slower printer, with
less memory, but it makes it thru the entire job.

But there's one problem.  As each statement prints, I am
gathering info and writing summary data to an output file.
After all the statements print, I do a simple output printer,
type &vfilename, output screen.  Nothing comes out, even if
she types this at the r> prompt.  If she prints to that
remote Okidata, it comes out fine!

To further narrow this down, I had her bring up any file in
Notepad.  She selected the local printer, but nothing prints
out.  Selects the network printer, it prints!  What would
cause this?  This obviously is not an RBase problem if even
Notepad will not print locally.
