FWIW:
When I got Vista on a new PC almost a year ago I, too, didn't bother with
setting up accounts as I am a single user and there seemed no point. I also
knew very little!
However, when I read that using a user account for general use and an
administrator account for security was significantly safer in terms of
unauthorised use via the Internet and the installation of "rogue" programs
was more or less contained, I decided to take the plunge.
It would have caused me a lot less grief if I had known that right at the
start!
From my experience I would suggest that the minimum is to set up two
accounts so that you have greater security with an admin account and a user
account. Mine is working fine now - with a few minor things still to sort
out - and the security seems to work rather well. I only wish that M$ make
this clearer in the first place and, Dell in my case, had installed two
accounts in their pre-installed set-up.
Regards,
Alastair.

Here's where my mileage varies - the UAC was very much in my way, so it is
now disabled.
Now, if only I could disable that annoying message that comes up every
time
I log on telling me that UAC is disabled ... !
A tip: Click Start then Run and type "msconfig" ...

Also, even though the Vista UAC remains activated on approx 82% of users
polled, clearly almost 1 in 5 disable it for any number of practical or
personal reasons.
I can see an option to do this on my User Accounts screen, but I'm not
ready
to give up on UAC yet -- so far it really hasn't gotten in my way and I
like
the extra level of security.
