We wired our own LAN system and made a point of avoiding fluorescent
fixtures. The electricians we use said crossing a fixture may never
cause a specific problem, but some interference is possible so every
time you can avoid something you are better off. We figured an extra
10-20 feet of cable per outlet to work around potential trouble spots
was worth the minimal cost particularly since we were the labor and we
were already there. There were two spots were there was no choice so we
simply hung the cable up from the fluorescent fixture. So far no
problems.

Hi

I have heard you should have your Cat5 cables 4ft away from fluorescent
lights

but the electrician wiring my new office says it is not necessary.

Is there any info from major companies that I can give him or am I being
overly concerned?

Thanks

Marc
