Mike,
When you checked to see if you had the current version, did you download and reinstall as Razzak suggested?

Mike

I am printing to a folder 'pdfdocs' located in sub folder of my application
just as I always have, I do have acrobat 9, I am not sure if it is full or
not. I must re-state that the file will print to printer and screen . The
problem occurs when I check the 'print to file' option and give the document
a filename.
the filename that is printed is 1kb and if an attempt is made to open the
file . an error message appears that states
'There was an error this file is already open or in use by another
application'. There are no files open.

There was also some mix up about the version of rbase extreme used, In fact I did go to the update to make sure that I am using the current version and
build. I believe it is R:BASE eXtreme 9.0 (64), U.S. Version,
Build: 9.0.3.10910. Please correct me if I am mistaken.
Also I was wondering what is the meaning of <G>

I do appreciate all of the polite replies of those who have been sincere in
helping me with this problem

Mike,

I use your code but with a different report obviously, but it prints
perfectly.

I have acrobat 9 (full).

What version of acrobat is installed on the computer you are using?

Also, the filesize is suspiciously small at 1k.
Are you printing to a directory where you have write permission?

Razzak

While in Report Designer, are you able to [Preview] the report?
preview works in designer
Are you able to PRINT the same report with OPTION SCREEN?
yes
Are you able to PRINT the same report with OPTION PRINTER?
yes
What is the exact syntax you are using, including the OPTION for
|FILENAME"?

The command is
PRINT BID2FBTXT +
WHERE bidnum = .vbidnum OPTION SCREEN +
|WINDOW_STATE MAXIMIZED +
|ZOOM_TYPE PERCENTAGE +
|ZOOMPERCENT 100 +
|THEMENAME R:BASE ROCKS!
RETURN
From the screen I use the 'print to file option and give it a
'filename.pdf

Mike,

A few questions ...

Are you able to PRINT the same report with OPTION SCREEN?

Are you able to PRINT the same report with OPTION PRINTER?

What is the exact syntax you are using, including the OPTION for

Answering these simple questions may also provide you with some
blue's clues ...

Very Best R:egards,

Razzak.

P.S. I also recommend to use the updated builds of R:BASE eXtreme.
