Ben, can you elaborate on your statement that ?if they are using XP-Pro thereis
little reason to switch to Win-7 in terms of use with their upgraded server?.

I really like Win7, but I don't see that you gain a whole lot of functionality
over XP. Relative to the server, the only requirement is that the workstation
OS be able to join a domain, if that is their desire, and the Pro version of XP
does that fine.

I may have been taking the the term "switch to" too literally ... ie, keep old
machines and upgrade the OS. If it is their intention to buy new workstations
that might a whole different issue.

Gunnar's comments are also important. Running a virtual XP machine under Win7
is an elegant way of retaining some compatibility. I've been using VMWare to
accomplish that, but the windows product is good also and I *think* sets itself
up on the network by default.

The best thing you can do is test, test, test. My memory is a sieve these days,
but I'm pretty certain 6.5 did not behave well under Win7-64, but seemed ok
under Win7-32. Even the Virtual PC is not completely bullet proof, as I had
some nasty issues code-locking a 6.5 app under it, though the app itself ran
fine. A a result I'm keeping a physical PC loaded with XP for supporting legacy
work.

Sorry I can't be more definitive.

Ben
