I put the 700x50 Big Apples on a bike that previously had 700x35s. Big Apples have a very nice tread for street and moderate off road riding. They are not race tires, but roll very smoothly. The only affect I notice is the wonderful plush ride and stability.
XRs have a tread designed for all road - and many no road conditions. They are great and pretty near bullet proof. But will take more power than a same size Big Apple. Of course if you are riding in rough stuff, they are the better bet.
