Well , yes. The Mark I was mark I in all respects.

 

What I learned was:

Wood is too weak. If you make wooden sprockets make 5 pairs at once (One for 
every day of the week)

The new ones are ΒΌ" aluminum. Also the wheels are looking pretty ragged now too.

I'll make a few alterations too it, but generally, I'll let it die/fall apart...

 

The fastest result would be to cheat and use attachment chain, like a big girl 
would....

 

I've found that the use of a flatbed scanner is beneficial.

In can scan some   components, and determine how accurately they are drilled 
out.

Typically I can get within +/- 0.1 mm measurement with that.

For example, my aluminium blocks are 17.1+/- 0.1 mm for my current test track 
section.

oh and rather than fussing with metal bands (though they would be stronger) 
what about a coat or two of light weight fiberglass cloth and resin? this way 
you can cover all the sides of the connecting links.

 

or after you drilled them for the screws, maybe drop them into a container of 
Urethane overnight to soak in for deep penetration and then remove them to dry.
