Different ammo loads for different vehicles makes it far too difficult
to manage during the battle and just leads to lots of debates over how
much each vehicle should carry. Furthermore, we use a collection of
plastic tubes that carry 40 paintballs each, which can be carried by any
vehicle. If the tubes carried different amounts, it would be very
confusing.

Keep in mind the original rules required all vehicles, including support
vehicles, to be at least 36" long. That would have prevented the small
vehicles from appearing on the battlefield. But, some early scale
modelers wanted to allow 1:6 scale vehicles, so we allowed it and now we
have to deal with people "gaming" the rules by finding the smallest
possible vehicles in each category ... something the 36" rule was
specifically designed to eliminate. If necessary a simple size or speed
rule will keep everything in check again.

I'm not worried too much. So far, battlers have been self-regulating
fairly well. They push the envelope (mostly for fun and innovation
reasons), then return to the center. That's been beneficial overall,
because it shows us where the rules need some attention. Given that we
rarely change the rules, I think that the system is working as
envisioned ... relying on a small set of rules to define a loose
boundary and on the common sense of battlers who want to keep the game
fun for everyone.
