Most cheap dimmers "chop the wave form" to get the dimming effect. They rely on AC, most remote equipment runs in DC. Simple answer is no. Complex answer is... if you invest maybe 4 years in the equivalent of a undergrad electrical engineering degree you can make it from scratch. (I know people that have done this for electric cars, you learn A TON, but the end product is almost 4times as costly as simply just purchasing the off the shelf device)
