Mac says: "These are not reproductions in the sense that facsimiles are
reproductions."

I think that is actually the crux of the matter here. What are printouts of
electronic files really?

They are certainly not the same manifestations as the originals because they
have different carriers and that needs to be reflected in the description of
the printout version (analog, print vs. digital).

So who is responsible producing the printout version? And here,
responsibility is not about intellectual and artistic content--that is
covered by the Statement of Responsibility data--this is Production or
Publication responsibility. So the question is, who has made the thing, and
is it meant to be distributed (Published) or is it a single copy (Produced)?
But the problem with printouts is that multiple entities can print exactly
the same thing from the digital file.

So this is, indeed, a grey area, and I would dearly love to know whether
there is a PCC task force working on this issue yet.

Thomas quoted:

"When a facsimile or reproduction has a publication statement or statements
relating to the original manifestation as well as to the facsimile or
reproduction, record the publication statement or statements relating to the
facsimile or reproduction. Record any publication statement relating to the
original as a publication statement of a related manifestation."

Try selling that to the provider neutral e-book folk.

We have repeating 264 with indicators. There is no excuse not to have the
content relevant information needed by patrons in a 264.

An e-book provided by an aggregator, and a print-out from an electronic
publication, both have publishers. The publishers are not the aggregator or
printer. These are not reproductions in the sense that facsimiles are
reproductions.
