Hello Wrenches, There are certain generators which the XW series inverters find very difficult to qualify. This is due to the fact that generator coils are wound in different ways, and even though you may have the voltage and frequency within specs, there are additional high frequency harmonics on the generator output that will cause the XW inverter not to accept it.
The critical area of the generator waveform is "zero cross" if there is ringing at zero cross the generator waveform frequency looks like a multiple of 60 Hz. The scenario would be rejected by most inverters and it is correctable using a 15uF 360 VAC oil filled motor run capacitor. This distortion is greatest for an unloaded generator. Typically the wave smooths out under load. As mentioned here before you could add a load to the generator to prove this point, or check the waveform with an oscilloscope. I know this is not a permanent solution, but it is a good troubleshooting step. I don’t disagree with my tech support colleagues about updating the firmware to V1.07, the changes made on this rev. makes the XW more tolerant to generators waveform. To get the latest firmware rev. you can go to our website or email me directly. Adding a load may help but I did not test this. This would require a permanent load and might not be desirable.
