Roy is correct, We have a number of clients with "old school" inverters who
have changed to LIPO batteries and they work just fine in open loop set ups.
Many of the early Lithium battery BMS systems closed loop communication didn't
work well or at all any way.

I'm also running the EG4 server rack 24V 200 Ahr batteries with my old Outback
VFX 3524, Classic 250 and
Morningstar Genstar 100, all open loop with no problem. It's all a matter of
getting the charge settings right and
checking on the cell balance periodically.

I'll be playing around with programming the Genstar for closed loop soon,
should be fine but then, what to do
with the Classic.....we'll see how it goes.

Good Luck!

Hi Chris

I have dozens of people with open loop lithium and older Outback equipment All
work flawlessly

There still is some incorrect information about the LBCO not working with LFP.
That I believe dates from some older LFP designs.

All the newer 16 series prismatic LFP work fine with LBCO/outback.
As well as all the charge parameters.

Dear people:

We have a customer in Henryetta, Oklahoma, and he’s been buying various
equipment from us over the years. He’s elderly, a veteran, and a believer in
solar power. But he’s been having battery problems (he’s got twelve 6V L16
types at present) and is interested in moving up to LFPs. He’s got an Outback
VFX3524, FM60, MATE3S, Hub4 and the usual accoutrements. If he wants to go
with LFPs, what are your suggestions – and also how might it integrate with his
3-year old inverter? I suspect he will be unwilling to spend a chunk of change
on a new inverter. All advice is welcome!
