What do you mean "handle"
First, anything above 127 is not ASCII
But if you put g.drawString chr(195), x, y
and run it on Windows, you will get something( it looks to me like a
capital A with a curled line above it) in the Win Sys Font. Just not
a check mark.
You would probably need to use another font which contains the check
mark symbol

ya I tried and got the same result you did.
So might I ask what is the extended ASCII table that goes 128 to like 255?
ive only used ASCII to 127 but as this link shows:
