I think anyone will have a hard time finding a DB better than
Postgre! (no cost!)
It is awesome and loaded with tons of features with amazing
community for support...As proof of this look at what Sun
Microsystems just did by including Postgre in with Solaris
now.....Hey no cuts to RS but just a real tough DB to come
against.....especially since it is so easy to work with Postgre and
RB anyways.

Perhaps someone from REAL Software can tell us if they plan to

This is a great question. Yes, we will address the needs of the
commercial/vertical developer. But I do not yet have details that can
be discussed on the NUG. If you have suggestions along these lines
please email me off-list.
There are a few other points from this thread I would like to
address:
* REAL SQL Server is licensed on a "per server" basis. Prices
start at
$500 and include one year of updates.
* The release of REAL SQL Server does not diminish our support for
other databases. We will prove this with our actions in the coming
months.
* As other people have noted, MySQL is not free for commercial use.
Unless you are going to license your source code under the GPL (i.e.,
unless your project is open source) you have to pay the MySQL folks a
minimum of $595 per server PER YEAR.
As others HAVE pointed out PostgreSQL is free in every way for ANY use
