Very much so. The latter ine can logically figure out without much prior exposure but the former simply is cryptic to the unintitated. And personally my eyes glaze over when i look at code like that with multiple operators strung togther and no assignment! That is why i persoanlly never made the jump to C or C++ after going from BASIC to FORTRAN to PASCAL to object PASCAL and then went to RB. After working a lot in such languages it may seem intuitive but it's not really. > Maybe to placate people as yourself, RS could have an option in RB that on > demand could convert such operators into OLD style syntax. It wouldn't be > that hard to do. It would still polute community code and make the laguage less consistant. > Finally , on the "professional" issue - in order for RB to have longevity > out there in the "fickle" world of languages, it really needs to be able to > attract and KEEP professional programers as well as beginners. My point is that It's really not all that porfessional no matter how C syntax may be precieved .. I suspect that type of stuff is the source of a LOT of bug in commercial software... > RB to sum up has to break out of the "stigma" amongst the wider camp > attached to "basic" derived languages as being only suitable for beginners > or "lightweight" projects. RB has the language structure necessary to do sophistaced OO programming... that is enough... BTW is that notthe agument tahtw as used aginst VB when it first came out? (I've heard it was but I was on the Mac [and VAX] side of things back then - Karen _______________________________________________ Unsubscribe or switch delivery mode: <http://www.realsoftware.com/support/listmanager/> Search the archives of this list here: <http://support.realsoftware.com/listarchives/lists.html>
