This is very true.

There have been a number of occaisions where my thoughts have been
requested on particular situations purely because I haven't had to tread
so lightly. In most cases I've given my thoughts when there are clear
technical decisions to be made and I believe I have enough knowledge to
help out. But, occaisionally I've politely declined as it's been an
internal political fight where nobody is going to win or I simply do not
feel qualified to give my opinion (it's amazing the questions you get
sometimes).
