Mathematicians talking about functions talk about a carefully defined
concept (e.g. via set theory) to which the terminus technicus
'function' was attached. If you decide to call a 'function' in that
sense a 'foobar' that is certainly fine but may lead to troubles when
communicating with mathematicians.
