Of course you're allowed to 'have' whatever opinion you want, but if you
want to enter them into a discussion, then you are no longer just 'having'
them, you are sharing them. This places an obligation on you - and all of
us - to think them through, and present them coherently - or as coherently
as possible.
Mostly it means allowing for the fact that the 'very personal opinion' we
begin with, may not be the same one we go away with. The whole reason for
making our 'very personal' opinions public on a list like this is to see how
they measure up against other people's to see where we might want to change
or adapt them - not to batter people with views set in stone.
So opinion is the starting point of a discussion, not the end point.
(Sorry if this sounds like a condescending lecture, but it really isn't
meant to. So here endeth the rave!)
