If we are going to have an Adaptec slam fest, then at's least be correct
about it. No two 2940UW cards use any fundamentally different hardware,
nor do they require anything different in the way of kernel code to
operate. The only thing that may change is the BIOS version on the card,
and that only changes how we read the information out of the BIOS. For
the most part, these changes in the BIOS maintain enough backward
compatibility that nothing need be done in the driver to read them. There
is one, and only one, time at which we have had to modify our BIOS read
routines to work properly on new BIOS version.

Not, so. Because they don't release their specs, it makes my job harder
that's for sure. But, they do release their specs to Justin Gibbs on a
regular basis, and since we share large amounts of code, that can be
overcome. As for waorking with a particular card here or there, that
should very likely read that it may or may not work with particular
*devices* on a 2940 card here or there (and even that is changing right
now as I just got confirmation from one of the people that has been having
that very problem that my 5.0.11 driver release is now working for them).

If I knew the right person to talk to, I could probably get what I want.
But, I don't. So, at this point, they still aren't noticeably helping the
linux community in any fasion. FreeBSD is another matter, since that's
what Justin Gibbs writes for.
