goncalo. very sorry for the delay in replying -- been too busy.
i have to say i wouldn't do this. there are a number of reasons and without
full understanding of the building i can only make assumptions...
- your calculations omit the weight of the tank itself. my 135 is about 150
lbs dry. a 170 will probably add 20 lbs/sq foot.
- you need to factor in additional weight for the stand and canopy. these
do add up and will be much greater for the new tank than the old.
-using your weights, you will increase from 115lbs/sq foot to 161 lbs/sq
foot.
i think it will be greater. i seriously suggest you consider hiring an
engineer (maybe you know one?)to take a look at your floor joist to
determine whether they really can support that load. my initial guess is
that it is unsafe.
