Place the hose/pipe that carries water to the sump inside the bag, these also
have draw strings to tighten it up.  The strings are long enough to tie off
to something, and once the bag becomes full of water, it's not going to be
able to be sucked in.
BTW, I also use a MD 100 on this particular system, with only a strainer, and
it works fine.
