Hey Ron. Yea, I hate to say it too... but you are both right. I mean, I want
to do it, but the stand on the 170 is nicer than the one on the 70. I tend
to envision what the set up would be like and how cool it would be to have
the two tanks with the different animals, and not look at the overall
picture. The stand on the 70 I made myself with a 2x4 frame, and then just
put inch particle board all around it... basically boxed the frame in.
Then I painted the whole thing black. It is actually a decent looking stand,
but not as nice as the glossy black oak stand. You know, someone mentioned
throwing down the $$ to get a nice stand for the 70, but is what I could do
is just remove the particle board from the frame, then re-do it in an oak,
then match the paint. It would probably only cost 60-70 bucks. Maybe that
would get me the go-ahead....

I also looked into putting them into different rooms. No way. She wasn't
going for it. Better chance on getting them into one room. It actually would
have been cool, because I could have put the 170 into the entry room, then
put the 70 in the living room (where the t.v and such is). These rooms are
adjacent to each other and I could put the 70 along the wall that joins the
two rooms. It would be behind the couch, and I could have easily tied them
together by simply running the outlet and return down and through the wall.
Probably wouldn't even see them since it would have been behind the couch.
Anyways, the answer to that idea was "I don't want to live at the Monterey
Bay Aquarium". Which I wouldn't mind, but she aint goin for it. And, as I
mentioned, I cant complain too much, because she is not arguing about
upgrading to the 170.....

Thanks for agreeing with my wife.... (just kidding)

Shane

can you plumb them together but put them in separate rooms????

I can't believe I'm going to say this but if they are both going
into your
living room or the such she's probably right....sounds like the 170
has a
pretty good looking stand and the 70 isn't quite as nice...(I've
never seen
a particle board stand before). That's probably why she's allowing
you to
        upgrade your tank.
