Subject: RE: fire coralThat's a good generic description that will cover most, but some specimens don't seem to fit their class. Like the fire coral, that looks like a SPS but is actually a LPS. For this reason the reference books are very helpful.

SPS: Acropora/Pocillapora/Tubinaria/Closed BrainThe difference is that the SPS are rigid corals that do not move in the
current. LPS are large polyped, jelly like corals that move a lot when
current is blown on them. LPS take large prey items, SPS take tiny prey
items. If you can see the mouth on the coral plainly, then chances are you
are looking at an LPS.HTH

thanks, i�m newbie in reefs too, i�ve kept fish for
about 5 years , but just got into corals. that�s why i�m so ignorant, and books
in here are almost impossible to find, but i have a friend and will borrow his
books to learn more.
