Hi all,
Came down to the tank this morning to the tell-tale sound of the
pump working an empty sump. Never a good sign. Turns out my refugium
spontaneously sprung a leak over night. as that drained, the pump from the
sump just kept on pumping. The main tank then drained down to the
anti-syphon hole, but by then 50+ gallons of water were on the floor. The
good news, is that all of the tank inhabitants are fine. I discovered the
source of the problem, and disconnected the offending refugium. After
adding a ton of water (which was already on hand for a water change this
weekend), I got back to a stable tank, but the water level is right to the
brink of the tank. I'm keeping my fingers crossed (and my sump low!). I
think a snail or something might have crawled into the overflow tube, which
would help explain the slight rise in tank depth. I'm not sure how to check
it for an obstruction. Just thought I'd share my little adventure, knowing
that we reefkeepers like our wounds well salted (g).
Be well,
Larry
