I took every "multimedia" class I could at a community college. Meanwhile I
experimented with whatever the predominant software was at the time.
Read books when I got stuck. Took every free gig I could get until I could
convince someone to pay for it. Try to improve on each project.

I like Amy G's advice. I took one web design class and then after that I was
motivated to take more.

I'm not really sure how the cost or quality of the class (art institute, ACC)
factors into getting "somewhere" in the web business but in ten years no one
asked about my education path, they only asked to see my portfolio and
references.

Two hardest things for me today is still design and collaboration and
unfortunately I don't think there's a classroom in the world that could have
prepared me for what I actually needed to know.

Subject: [Refresh Austin: 3705] questions about being in the web design industry

Hello,

I'm new to the web design world and I figure this a good way to get started. My
name is mike and I"m new to web design world.

I'm starting school to get a 2nd bachelor's in web design from the art
institute (1st bba is in marketing) and I was wondering since ya'll are in the
industry, am I going in the right direction?

I see that everyone has a different background, and i'm curious what did
everyone study or how did they get to where they are today.

I hate to pay for something and then go nowhere afterwards.

Mike
