I been using Dreamhost shared hosting since 2002. It's cheap (less than
$10/month) and their interface is easy to use. I never really used their
e-mail system, but since they now offer Google App support I've switched
everything over to the Gmail integration.

Wordpress is a one-click install. I do recommend that you configure any of
their one-click installs to automatically upgrade. My site was hacked via
security exploits because I didn't keep up with the upgrades. I'm not sure
if it was a Wordpress or MediaWiki installation, but since I'm currently not
running a blog, I've uninstalled all the apps for the time being.

SSH & SFTP access, check.

They use phpMyAdmin for managing MySQL databases linked off their interface.
It's been a while but I think you can connect to them remotely from a
desktop client as well via SSH.

Ruby and Python should be available by default. Though if you want use
Mongrel with Rails, it's only available on their PS (Private Server) plans
currently. Otherwise, Rails and Django are preferred to run under Passenger
in their shared environments.

Customer support is via e-mail (a plus or minus), though they offer a
limited number of callbacks for an additional fee. They've been quick to
respond when I've had issues, but I haven't used support often so I can't
really qualify to a typical experience. They do however have an extensive
wiki that seems to be well maintained. I used it to verify some of your
requirements since I couldn't remember if the features were fully supported
yet: http://wiki.dreamhost.com/Category:How-To

Since I'm only using it for a personal site and a development playground
Dreamhost has been the best deal for me thus far. They tend to implement
popular frameworks fairly quickly and based on my impressions often ahead of
the competition. Not bad if you want to play with the latest and greatest on
a linux-based Web hosting provider.

If your current host uses cPanel they have an cPanel importer that could
make the transition much easier.

On the other hand, Dreamhost is a little weird. Some of the stuff that makes
it on their blog can be offensive, but more often not it's just plain weird.
Though as often entertaining as it is, it can seem like they're a bit
unprofessional.
