A friend's wife had a voice that would false the repeater controller regularly. The system was configured to mute the audio for 3/4 second on every decode. He owned the repeater so it was easy to try various solutions (the controller involved was a homebrew Z80 based implementation). The solution he ended up with was to enable the touchtone decoder starting at 1.5 seconds into every received signal and only for 3 to 4 seconds. If the decoder saw a valid digit it would stay enabled, otherwise it stayed offline for the rest of the received signal. This mod was only implemented on the 2m input - the 440 control input stayed "normal"
The thinking behind this modification took advantage of the protocol that was used on that repeater: if you were going to command the system you would key down, give your callsign and say and start punching buttons. The only side effect of having this "window" was that is you wanted to do a second string of digits you had to unkey and rekey. Just an idea... Worked for them....
