Thirty years ago, I installed a Regency BTL-304 in a LaFrance fire engine,
underdash. The ground wire, unfused, smoked first time out of the firehouse.
My ground to the radio was the best ground the dashboard-mounted equipment
(PA-20, light control, you know) could find. I've fused both sides ever
since, as a system safety precaution, not just a radio safety precaution.
