I am getting ready to start configuring my 440 repeater for remote
RX sites. Inasmuch, I have obtained a SpectraTAC (version B)
comparator with 5 SQM's and a Line Driver for this use. Since this
post is fairly complex in nautre, feel free to reply off-list if you
feel the need. My e-mail address should be captioned at the top of
this message.

My questions are:
1) I plan on using a "cross-band repeater" at each of the remote
sites to link that audio to the main repeater (440 RX to 927 TX
links). How do I get these links to transmit the status tone? Will
the PL deck do this, or will I need to add some sort of board to the
transmitter?

2) Speaking of the status tone, it appears the default is 2175 Hz.
There is an option of using 1950 Hz. What is the preferred method
for this, and why?

3) At the receive end (main repeater) do I *NEED* to have
SpectraTAC receivers, or can I use a radio tuned to the proper freq
and feed the audio from that to the comparator?

4) The manual talks about two types of systems - a -13dB and a 0dB
system. What are the benefits of each, and which is preferable?
(It seems from the manual that -13dB is default?)

At this time my receive site links are envisioned to be something
along the order of two Maxtracs or Spectras... I'd like to use
another Maxtrac/Spectra at the repeater end for the link receivers,
too.

I apologize for what may be basic questions, but I'm just getting my
feet wet in this type of system, and I want it to be right when I do
install this. I'm sure I will have more questions as time goes on.
Also, I do have the manual for the SpectraTAC comparator, but
sometimes the manual speaks in other than "plain English" to me...

Thanks for your help, understanding, and patience.
