The most common ham layout has a status 
tone encoder at the voter shelf end. The 
encoder function is tied to the link receiver 
cos/cor function.

Other status tone options were available 
when the tx & function control system was 
tone keyed. Leakage through the system might 
cause problems if the 2175 status tone was 
able to provide low level tx guard tone, ie 
keep the transmitter keyed.

You can use other receivers. There are many 
wild cards which modify the voter preformance. 
The Motorhead Spectra Tac is a true Signal to 
Noise Voter, vs all the after market ham types. 
The true SN Voter will allow a much wider 
system preformance fudge factor.

Just depends on the equipment configuration you 
install the voter on.
