It is my understanding that you can NOT replay the weather alert message on
an amateur repeater but rather can only use the monitor radio to activate a
message indicating "WEATHER ALERT - LISTEN TO NOAA WEATHER RADIO FOR MORE
INFORMATION". We have a system in Cincinnati (operated by the Cincinnati FM
Club) that hosts the WARN net and we even set up the repeater with different
tail beeps to indicate whether there is a WATCH or WARNING in place. We have
the repeater set up to switch to a different PL when it goes to WEATHER
WARNING mode. This allow folks to go to bed and leave there radio on with
the different PL tone activated. They don't hear any traffic UNLESS the
system is put into WARNING mode. It is valuable in the spring and fall since
we live in Tornado Alley. All of the switching is done via tone remote
control.

Subject: [Repeater-Builder] Weather Alert Monitor

Hello to the Group..

Was wondering if anyone has a NOAA weather radio at
their repeater site that activates an announcement on
the repeater and plays the weather warning or test
message??

I am thinking of doing the same thing and just want to
know what everyone else is using for equipment such as
what kind of repeater controller and what kind of
weather receiver?

I am using a CAT-200B controller and will need to get
a weather radio..

Thanks,

Leon-N2HLT
