    @nkronenfeld we can do clean-ups in a way that's backwards compatible. But 
we cannot remove old method signatures for the purpose of clean-up. This is why 
we vet new public API's pretty closely in Spark post 1.0. However, there is 
some legacy stuff that, to your point, is sometimes messy. The reason is that 
otherwise you break old programs that depend on the existing API's.
