    It's true that it doesn't fundamentally have to be tied to the normal 
timeout, but if we just give it an arbitrary value (e.g. 120s) and the user 
sets the normal timeout to something higher (e.g. 180s) then the cache time out 
ends up being lower, which is strange and most likely not intended.
