    Ok, here's my current prototype. Using the same example as above:

    Basically, I came up with a builder pattern, where you define the type at
the end. For example, for an int config:

        private[spark] val DYN_ALLOCATION_MIN_EXECUTORS =
          ConfigBuilder("spark.dynamicAllocation.minExecutors")
            .doc("This is the doc string")
            .internal()
            .intConf
            .withDefault(0)

    Or the same config without a default, meaning it would be an Option[Int]:

        private[spark] val DYN_ALLOCATION_MIN_EXECUTORS =
          ConfigBuilder("spark.dynamicAllocation.minExecutors")
            .doc("This is the doc string")
            .internal()
            .intConf
            .optional

    Although I haven't added the code, you could support validators by adding
something like:

        private[spark] val DYN_ALLOCATION_MIN_EXECUTORS =
          ConfigBuilder("spark.dynamicAllocation.minExecutors")
            .doc("This is the doc string")
            .internal()
            .intConf
            .validator(_ > 0)
            .optional
