But old event logs (created before #1218) don't have that information. So
when the History Server reads those old entries, the code needs to account for
the fact that the app id may not exist.
Sure, it can be a "naked" variable and be set to null, but I was under the
impression that Spark preferred to use `Option` in those cases.
