Well that answers one question of whether it was going to be obvious how
to configure the less mainstream of kdump's options.  Check out the
"core_collector" line in the /etc/kdump.conf file.  There you'll see a
call to "makedumpfile"  If you run "makedumpfile --help" you'll get a
really nice usage display which includes the "-d" option (which allows
for partial dumps) and the "-c" option (which allows for compressed
dumps.)
