I received the following response to my SR:
"Yes, we are aware of intermittent outages happening with RHN.
The reason for the same can be defined as with the introduction
of virtualization in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5, we enabled
customers to leverage this new technology to change many aspects
about the way they utilized Linux and their applications.
However, the difficulty with supporting a new paradigm like
virtualization is that predicting the usage patterns from
customers is very difficult. Over the last few months, the
increased usage in the virtualization space coupled with the
heavy usage of RHN has caused intermittent outages for our
customers. We are actively working to respond to these incidents
as well as making sure that we maintain our capacity to meet our
customer demands."
So basically, they know the services levels are not what they should be
and they have some excuses for that. While I guess it's good to know
that they are aware of the problems and are working on them, it still
feels a little wrong that they are experiencing so many problems without
a single public announcement, at least I'm not aware of an announcement.
Later,
Tom
