Hi everyone,

I just got a Dell Optiplex 760 and RHEL5.2 doesn't support the network
card or the video card.

NIC: Intel Corporation 82567LM-3 Gigabit
Video card: ATI Technologies Inc Mobilitiy Radeon HD 3470

Has anyone else made RHEL5 work on this hardware?

Fedora 10 has a driver for the NIC, but I need it to work in RHEL5. I
can't kickstart from the network when the NIC isn't supported.. How
would I go about adding support for the NIC to RHEL5? How would I take
the Fedora 10 drivers and make a driver disk that RHEL5.2 would
recognize? The git logs show a change in the pci.ids file and the
changes are made to the e1000 driver. Is there a way to make the e1000
driver recognize the card?

I tried Fedora 10 in the hope of figuring out how to get the video card
to work under RHEL5.2, but the screen goes black as soon as it tries to
go graphical mode and the screen doesn't come back even when running
chvt, switching virtual terminals or pressing Ctrl-Alt-Bkspc. It's one
of the newer cards that only has a DisplayPort video connection. I'm
using a DisplayPort to DVI dongle because we don't have any monitors
with DisplayPort connectors.

Am I doomed to wait for a RHEL5 update for the newer hardware to work?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,
Jason Edgecombe
