Still on about the e1000e driver to get networking I have now tried:
- Red hat shipping driver 7.3.20-k2-NAPI (RHEL5.3 installation media)
- Intel driver 0.5.11.2-NAPI (compiled from source on Intel's web site)^
- Red hat kmod driver 0.3.3.3-k4 (for RHEL5.2, installed via RPM)*
And none of them (post insmod) give me an eth0.
Suggestions?
I've a suggestion, for myself. How about next time you check to see if the
NIC is disabled in the BIOS and then find the joker responsible (most
likely yourself and give them a slap)? Maybe that'd save you two days.
On the other hand I know a lot more about loadable kernel modules and the
networking subsystem than I did before.
Apologies for spamming the list and for blaming Red hat. As far as I'm
concerned _networking_ with RHEL5.3 and Dell Optiplex 760 desktops works
correctly out of the box.
All I have to do now is get the video working reliably at 1680x1050 on this
here Dell 2009Wt LCD...
Ben, a deep shade of puce
