The US butt out of the whole region - particularly Israel and Palestine. No support for Israel (huge) and no support for Palestine (small). Result A humbler, more humane Israel, much more careful about diplomacy - after all, its military edge would be severely reduced. It would pay to make friends. The UN and Europe would be involved in separating the waring parties - if war eventuated. But this would be similar to peacekeeping missions in other countries - manageable and fair. Ultimately, more reasonably balanced, the two smaller countries would find it more efficient to co-exist, rather than attempt to batter each other. (Impossible now with the current imbalance of force). There would be drastic electoral consequences in the US - in fact it would be impossible. Whatever government introduced this measure would be politically destroyed by the current vested interests. This is a dream after all. And basically, I think that current political "realities" in the US, are what keeps the whole sorry mess going. The only other chance is that the US gets so badly discredited by Iraq that Europe and independent UN countries are able force the US to withdraw its influence and funding in the Israel/Palestine region... and replace it...regardless of US internal politics.
