[RC] Do gaited horses do endurance?

My own personal opinion is that when they do their termino gait they would seem to put a lot of stress on the joints and waste a lot of motion but I don't really know.


I ride Peruvians, just to let you know the gait that you are referring to does not put stress on the joints or waste any energy.  It is there natural gait and they can go and go in that gait. In addition to a canter and walk.  These horses are work horses.  They were breed to carry the plantation owners all day long over all types of terrain.  And from every picture I have seen of them in there native country the plantation owners were all heavyweights.  They might look pretty, with there fancy walk and long mane and tail and wonderful arched neck, but that is all just secondary, its there ability to go mile after mile and with a mind set of giving you the best ride you have ever had. 

Thank you Steve for your voice in the matter.  My Peruvian and I will see everyone out there this year.  I am sure he will do well, hope I do as well as him.
