can't offer a solution as such ... yeah it's probably to do with tags,
or characters or spaces, or the Slim database schema or something, but
i can't really speak to that.

just wanted to restate what adam has said, and urge you to think
outside the CD box.

the fact a piece of music was spread across 2 (or 3) CDs is just a
legacy implementation and distribution detail, a vestigial tail from
bygone times. just as we moved from flipping vinyl-sides to CDs, we can
now move from multiple CDs to seamless media storage.

what is more important or relevant to your enjoyment of a piece,
treating it as a whole, or remembering how many shiny-metal pieces of
plastic it got shipped to you on.

i also use and reccomend Mp3Tag(http://www.mp3tag.de/en/) and once you
take a few minutes to figure out all it's features, it is a big help.
(all sorts of useful options for tag-wrangling, conversion, stripping,
renaming)

if i have something unnecessarily spread over multiple CDs, with a few
quick keystrokes i will rename it as one album, auto-renumber the
tracks, rename the files, and move them all into one folder ... just
like that, very civilized.

i'll also go the other way if i think it's right - Du Pre on one CD
playing Elgar cello concerto, and then Bach cello suites 1&2, they can
easily stand up for themselves, split-out as two seperate albums and
renumbered, renamed as such.
like i say, just 'cos they arrived on one disc, doesn't mean they have
to stay stuck together forever

... it's a whole new media-server streaming age, you should definitely
think about some of the new opportunities and set-up your music exactly
how you would prefer and what makes most sense or is more sympathetic to
the intent of the music.
