Interesting thread for me. For years I've used Twonky on a MP101, using
my iTunes xml library to feed it. No reference to the TPE2 tag made by
either Twonky or iTunes, as far as I can see.

Now I'm using SlimServer 6.5.1/SB3, I've been finding all sorts of
weirdness has entered because of this tag.

e.g. I ripped Astral Weeks as MP3s, with an Artist tag of "Morrison,
Van" set in CDex, which is indeed how it displays in iTunes/iPod. But
when I search at song level SB3 shows this as "Van Morrison". Having
looked at it with Tag & Rename it's because the TPE2 file is set to
"Van Morrison".

I'd never even heard of TPE2 tag until reading these forums, so it
wasn't me that set it. Either iTunes has or it was present in the info
that CDex extracted from freedb when I ripped.

Long and short of this thread seems to be that if all comp album tracks
are in the same dir, then every TPE2 tag can be deleted and SS will
still identify comps properly (if so great, I can do this with Tag &
Rename - after backing up first!)? I've got the "Part of Comp" tags
set correctly where applicable.
