I've been working with tags for some time, but haven't figured out how
best to handle various artist CDs. I prefer to have my regular CDs in
a "Artist\Album\SongTitle" directory structure with matching tags. I
tend to prefer orderly sorting vs. absolute accuracy in order to group
like items more easily.

My approach so far has been to use Various Artists as the Album Artist
and treat the CD the same as my others for the rest of the tags. But
using this approach means I lose the original artist info and these are
the songs that I would most likely not know who they were. I could put
the artist in the filename, but that wouldn't be accessible to the
players. I originally didn't like the idea of having 50 artists with 1
song each cluttering my music managers (and still don't), but I want a
way to keep the artist info in there somehow. What also makes it
challenging is that I use Slimserver, Windows Media, and iTunes and
each may treat tags just slightly differently, but that's less of a
concern since I moved to FLAC and that is already a limiting factor for
WMP/iTunes.

Ideas? Rationale? Links to good approaches?
