The ripped music isn't bad at all and perfectly acceptable for background music, but it is not as good as what the CD player can do, lacking clarity and life which is clearly audible in a side by side comparison. My stereo is relatively high end and mercilessly reveals poor recordings, shoddy studio practices or bad CD mastering, and now it is doing the same to the ripping process. This is the point at which having a decent setup becomes a curse as well as a blessing.
